Introduction

FASE (pronounced "phase") was started in 1991 by members of the software engineering education community in order to have a electronic forum for the dissemination and discussion of events related to software engineering education.

The original acronym for FASE was Forum for Academic Software Engineering, but was subsequently changed so that it was more inclusive to industrial and government training issues (which led to a co-editor in that area).

In recent years, FASE has also covered a wide variety of professional issues (e.g. licensing, certification, ethics, body of knowledge, and accreditation), which has also led to the addition of a co-editor for this area.

FASE has an independently-published newsletter, not affiliated with ACM, IEEE-CS or any other organization.

The FASE newsletter is released around the 15th of the month (provided those in the community have submitted content).

N.B. From September 2006 the editors have taken the decision to use the FASE mailing list as a means of passing on, to the Software Engineering education community, announcements regarding conferences etc. These can be submitted in any commonly accessible format.

If, in any month a number of articles are articles are submitted for publication we will production a formal newsletter. This decision has been taken in response to the (lack of) submissions over the past six months.

FASE has around 640 subscribers in over 50 countries.

Submission Guidelines

N.B. FASE articles contain the viewpoints of their respective authors: they do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the FASE staff.

Send newsletter articles to one of the co-Managing Editors, Barrie Thompson or Helen Edwards (or their joint email).

If the article is for a FASE topic where there is a guest editor, the submission should instead be to that person, according to the schedule provided.  Items received by the 8th of a month will be considered for inclusion in that month's issue.

N.B. If there are insufficient submissions sent to require the composition of a monthly newsletter then those received will be forwarded on by email.

FASE format guidelines.

The previous formatting restrictions have been lifted and authors may submit articles in any commonly accessible format (e.g. *.pdf, *.htm. *.doc, *.rtf).

Any newsletter issued after September 2006 onwards will be published in html or pdf format.
